Abstract

According to WCIOM poll, 91% of Russian employers highlight the lack of practical skills of university graduates in Russia. The issue of introduction of the application-based learning at all education levels is gaining its urgency. Meanwhile, the national project “Education” implies wide-scale modernization of logistical support of schools and creation of new centers of additional education supplied with modern hi-tech equipment. The upgrade of education infrastructure opens up good opportunities to transform the content of education to make it more practically oriented. However, such a transformation appears to be quite challenging to the Russian education system. This is due to lack of effective organization and cooperation models uniting the resources and interests of all stakeholders including schools, centers of additional education, universities, and employers. One of the possible responds to this challenge is the development of research and project activity at schools and organizations of additional education. It allows children to reveal and develop abilities and gain practical experience in different areas of science and technologies. Also, it helps them to find out their strengths and weaknesses to improve their hard and soft skills, system thinking and creativity. The suggested model of organization and support of project and research activity of highly motivated teenage students has led to significant results despite the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) obstacles. It has helped to raise the involvement of children in regional and national competitions and Olympiads, their motivation for self-study and education, awareness of modern trends in science and technologies.
