OEC leads reporters visiting the educational supporting area for migrant children.
During 22nd – 23rd February 2018, the Office of Education Council by Dr. Chaipreuk Sereerak, Secretary-General, Mrs. Kuakul Changjai, Director of Education Standards and Learning Development Bureau and
Ms. Suweena Gaintanasilp, Director of Public Communication Bureau, accompanied by reporters to explore the field work of education management for children of migrant labors in Tak province.This event took place at
Ban Hua Fai School, Sapphawitthayakhom School and Parami School.
According to the Secretary-General, there are different types of non-Thai children who are studying in Thai basic schools in this area, namely: 1) children who have not registered with Thai government and/or have not had Thai identity and followed their parents to work in Thailand and 2) Children who have traveled back and forth between Myawaddy, Myanmar and Mae Sot, Tak. Besides, there are around 10,000 children attending classes at private learning centers.
Moreover, the populations have increasingly moved to Thailand at the moment to receive the rights on education in both public and private schools, due to the Convention on the Rights of the Child that
Thailand has joined since 1992. Therefore, every child who come to study in Thailand would receive the same education rights as Thai children. The Office of Education Council (OEC) would conclude the information
from this fieldwork to propose policy recommendations towards the Minister of Education in order to enhance the quality of education for migrant children.
